Practicum Post

I just looked into the Discussion section of the NRDC and was excited to see the many different types of topics that people were talking about. And they were from nonspecialists in the field!! That means anyone can post something that they want to people to hear. Now I did not write-up a whole article, but I did comment on one person's post. This post voiced a guy's opinion on the tone that NRDC uses when they communicate on Facebook. He says that they are full of heat and ager, which leads to a lot of angry, frustrated responses (much like what he was doing). The article went on to talk about some things that I didn't quite understand- mostly about the politics of fossil fuel.

I understand that the point of the discussion board is to further people's knowledge on a particular topic, but I didn't know much about what he was talking about. However after reading this, I felt compelled to tell the guy that I think he was being a little be too sensitive. So I did. I kept it short and simple saying that being passive agressive would not help to solve the problems that we are facing nationally and globally. The NRDC needs to be forceful in their demands in order to see results.

I haven't heard any type of response from this, nor do I really expect to. I think it does take a lot of courage to get your voice out there initial despite how anonymous it seems. But after that first act, I think it will be a lot easier to embrace the digital community and expand communication across boundaries that I never would have thought I would.
