practicum post 5-Jarchow

So I've added my video to 3 groups on vimeo now. Have not gotten a response quite yet, but vimeo is not the type of site which is checked everyday, so I'm not worried. I have discovered the strongest community on vimeo however with the power of its groups. In order to get your video seen by the most interested audience possible, all you have to do is search a group related to your video and submit it to that group. For example, I added my video to a group dedicated to Wisconsin filmmakers, another dedicated to specifically Madison filmmakers and finally one that just likes videos involving snow and cold weather. This is the easiest way of finding a niche group that can really appreciate your work and not be confused by its relevance. I look forward to talking more with my fellow group members on vimeo and reporting back soon.

Practicum Post 5

Since the last time I posted about JDate, I have instant messaged with many more people and I’ve realized a few things. The first thing I’ve noticed is that guys always revert to talking about sports. Now don’t get me wrong, I can talk about Badger sports no problem but hearing about the game they’re watching at that moment is not all that interesting to me and I will be much more inclined to make up some excuse about why I have to go in order to cut the conversation short. The next thing I noticed is that guys often bring up music and movies and I find this to be a much more neutral and interesting topic. The conversation always seem to go smoothly when talking about favorite movies and bands and then easily flows into movies and concerts that we have seen recently. Even if we have very different tastes, it’s still fun to talk about. A third thing I’ve found is that people are not just looking to talk to people who live in their area. Although I have spoken to people who are from Wisconsin, I have also spoken to people all over the country. It seems like people don’t just use JDate to meet people and go on dates, they are also using the site to simply get to know people and have someone to talk to.

practicum #5- Amanda

It’s been around four weeks since I posted my question and got four responses. I searched through two pages of about 30 threads and found mine. No one has commented on it since and probably no one will. As I scrolled through threads I noticed that some of them have been moved to other discussion topics from the How-to topic. So there must be someone, like a moderator, who is checking through the question to make sure they are appropriate and in the correct section. I wonder if these people are paid to moderate and how much time they spend scrolling through the threads. Would moderating be a fun job or would it be tedious and boring?
