Practicum 2-Amanda

To my surprise, most of the how-to websites that I picked out were not helpful. I found that the videos were not geared towards beginners and more towards learning different techniques. I finally found two sites that were actually helpful, The Knitting Site and the Yarn Co. These two sites combined have taught me how to make a slipknot through knitting rows. The Knitting Site had videos that started with the slipknot, which I needed to learn how to make. However as I watched the video I felt that it went too fast and I could not see all the steps because of the camera angle. That is when I started to use the Yarn Co. This site had pictures that corresponded to the steps. This allowed me to see how the yarn should be placed in relationship to the needles.

Another website that I am using is KnittingHelp. This site has a forum that members can sign up for and create a thread with a Q and A’s or add to a discussion that is already in existence. As I scrolled through the how-to forum, I felt pretty intimidated because most of the topics pertained to advanced knitting. I found that the General Knitting section had topics more on my level; yarn questions, needles, tips and tricks and more. There was an introduction section, so I posted a hello to the group. I can’t wait to add and ask questions on the other topics!

Practicum 1-Amanda

So today I have started my practicum project, specialized information communities, how to websites. After much thinking and narrowing down I decided I would use how-to websites to learn how to knit. I wanted to learn something that I would actually continue after the end of this project. Many of my friends knit while waiting for their flight to and from school and I figured since I spend 4-5 hours traveling during breaks, I should knit while waiting as well. There were so many knitting websites that were all pretty much the same, videos with descriptions. I search through many and found one that I liked. I have ordered my needles and yarn and hope to start this week!
