"It's a great business model, Paul, but we really need to try to reach a the wider demographic of college students. We've got a presence online, but could use real-life reviews to get the ball moving."
These men were clearly talking about a restaurant that they were planning on opening up, and wanted to try to implement promotions online to get the word out. I eavesdropped on their conversation a little more, and interjected, " 'scuse me, guys, couldn't help but overhear your discussion - have you heard about Foursquare?" I felt bizarre blurting this out, but knew that it would make for a good last practicum post - my blatant attempt at promoting my project via word of mouth. We talked for a good ten minutes, and I (needless to say) enlightened them.
So there you have it, folks. Bettering the community, one business at a time, via Foursquare. Look for it in the coming months, as it is going to unveil further marketing strategies aimed at helping out the little guy.
Also... if anyone happens to use Foursquare for the remainder of this class, and finds anything interesting on there, be sure to comment on one of these posts and share it with us!!
