Blog Post 6- Hulu and YouTube
The big difference between the YouTube video and the Hulu video are that the YouTube video I watched was user generated content while the Hulu video was a professionally made TV show. I use both services alllll the time, but use them for completely different reasons. I use Hulu to watch Modern Family and a few other TV shows that I miss on the nights that they air. The other night I decided to look around the site and see what else there is to watch, and there was nothing of interest other than TV shows (the movie selection is horrible...). I watch YouTube videos for short clips of entertainment (funny clips of babies, britney spears music videos, etc). The quality of Hulu is generally much better than YouTube, and all in all I think Hulu is a much "classier" site.

I definitely agree that Hulu is much "classier" than YouTube is. I think the main reason for this is because of the fact that anyone can submit anything on YouTube anytime. As for Hulu, it shows well-established shows and movies that a lot of us are avid viewers of. It has real actors, real plots and legitimate producers. With a lot of the funny YouTube videos I watch, I a lot of times find myself asking "wait, was that real?". Though YouTube is definitely entertaining, it's not as classy or up-to-par as Hulu. I think Hulu could be deemed much more "trustworthy" than YouTube, just as it's classier.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about the movie selection on hulu, it is just terrible because all they are allowed to stream are movies off of the lifetime network or some other old school movie that 5 people in the world have heard of. I agree with Brady that hulu is classier and much more trustworthy because it follows copyright rules and is a legitimate site. But I think that Youtube is legitimate legitimate in a different sort of way. It has been recognized as a legitimate mediator like we saw in class with the Viacom case. Both sites serve a purpose and I think that one day youtube might reach an agreement with some network (i think comedy central) to start airing full length shows such as TOsh.0 or south park.
