When I used to google myself in high school, which everyone did when they were that age dont deny it, I used to have 7 of the 10 listings on the first google page. This was primarily because of sports and write-ups in the newspaper each week, but when I googled myself for this assignment, there was one link with my actual name, and it was for a record for my high school conference that still stands today. All of the other 9 links are about some other "Derrick, Dereck, Derek, etc" and their facebook page.
As I went to the second page, there was only one mention of the "real me." All others included facebook homepages and Findpersons at various colleges and locations. Essentially, many of these links took me to different directories to find contact information. I remember when I was on google for football, basketball, golf, academic performance, etc. Now, no such luck. So I can definitely see how google is starting to rank order the pages that they bring up: Facebook and social networking, etc. comes first, and then student directories, rather than local level media. Damn, it sucks to get old.
