Since I've never been a member of Myspace, I don't have any friends' profiles to look at, so I just did an open search and looked at the first fifteen profiles that came up. The representation of males and females were very close to one another in the fifteen profiles I saw (7 males and 8 females). Several of the profiles I looked at had very loud, busy patterns/backgrounds. This was very unappealing to me because I'm so accustomed to the clean look of Facebook. The profiles were not very easy to read because of the combination of colors, fonts, and animated images. On a few of the profiles, I found some of the personal information they revealed very interesting. For example, one of the profiles had the individual's personal income, his body type, and whether he wanted to have children or not. Is this a dating website, or what? I thought this was an unnecessary amount of personal information. I also noticed that several of the profile pictures individuals had were somewhat revealing. I also found that several of the profiles that I viewed were of middle-aged individuals.
Another thing I found interesting about Myspace was that most of the profiles were open for anyone to view. Unlike Facebook, you can see someone's profile without being their friend. This is unappealing to me because I would only want my personal information open to my friends. I also noticed that Myspace has adopted some of Facebook's qualities. When I've looked at Myspace profiles in the past, they lacked some of their current characteristics. For example, people can now post statuses and post on each other's walls, which are both characteristics of Facebook.
After examining Myspace, I think I'll stick with the privacy and clean look of Facebook...
