Blog #3- ChatRoulette

Before this assignment, my only knowledge of ChatRoulette was via South Park. Usually South Park over exaggerates the problem with the particular issue they are depicting and i assumed Chat Roulette would be the same way. In my opinion, this was not the case. In my first 10 spins, 9 out of the 10 were men exposing themselves to the camera. In South Park, they went though 12 before getting someone. This may be the first time South Park did not over exaggerate the truth.
I did get a few people who just wanted to talk. For me, this is just weird. I have plenty of friends so forcing a conversation with a complete stranger seems pointless to me but i can see why this would be a appealing to many. In the conversations it seemed like many wanted to talk over aim or msn messenger as well which kind of got me to think whats the point?
So my review is that it is not for me. On the one hand, this website is a great idea and innovation in social networking. It is a place where you can be face to face with anyone in the world from any where in the world. To me that is a crazy futuristic idea. The problem with it is that it is not monitored. There are definitely ways to monitor it but that would obviously exponentially decrease the traffic to the site. But overall, I just can't emphasize enough how creepy chat roulette is to me.
