Practicum Post 4

Recently, I began exploring more groups in my Eons senior citizen social networking site. When I joined the Daily Humor group, I noticed something that I did not catch before. Once I joined the group, a pop-up page came up asking if I wanted e-mails sent to me of the group's postings immediately, daily, weekly, or monthly. This screen really made me think, because in most social networking sites these days, the SNS site provider will give options to be posted on other social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter, or even ask if you want the post to be texted to you.

This got me thinking more....Through my research, along with what I presented upon, the internet usage, mainly, is not as different to how we use than one would think. However, after further research, I would say they use the internet as we have used it in our childhood. I would say there is a definite learning curve in the practices of using the internet. And really, this makes sense. Because of the delayed introduction of the internet to many senior citizens, they incur a delay on the newer internet practices like tweeting and interacting the internet will mobile devices.

I'll be continuing to ask my friends on Eons, and find more pertinent groups to discuss with the members of cell phone and internet usage, and see how much of a difference there really is in this type of internet usage. Check back!

  1. how many friends are you at now? have they finally accepted you into a member of their community?

  2. I'm up to 10 friends. In my little groups, and the few private messages I get, I have been accepted. As for the entire site, I still could be doing a better job in reaching out to new people and gaining their trust. Sure has been interesting

  3. really random, but I recently heard of a 60 year old women being pregnant and giving birth to her own grandchild. the lady wanted to help out her daughter who couldn't have kids...do you think any of the people that you talk to would consider doing that? personally, I find it too strange...
