Blog Post#7-Computerized Tracking

At first I wasn't sure exactly what "computerized" meant. Does it mean any form of technology, anything with an interface, whether it be complex or simple, or anything with some sort of computer chip in it? But in the end, I suppose I realized that almost everything these days is digitally engineered, so the term computer is really becoming something less specific and more general.
When I came home today around 4:30 p.m., the first thing I did was turn on my computer. I had some homework to catch up on, so I spent a good three hours finishing my work. The work on my computer involved using the Adobe software programs Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustrator. I also used Microsoft Word. I spent time intermittently on the Internet, mostly for research, but occasionally I strayed and would check out the new arrivals on my favorite clothing websites.
Around 5 p.m. my mother called me on my cell phone. We talked briefly, for about 10 minutes. Also during the time I spent on my computer, I watched a few programs on the television. I never really payed close attention to any of them, but the background noise helps me concentrate when I get antsy from working too long.
After my homework was done I spent another two hours watching television on my computer. I watched two downloaded episodes of Mad Men, Season 2.
After that was done, it was back to work. I researched more on my computer and then began on an assignment for my journalism class.
It's interesting to really see how much I rely on my computer and other digital devices. Without them, my entire evening would have been completely different. I often wonder how people really researched homework, typed up documents or derived any sort of entertainment before these magical devices. In many ways technology has helped us, but I can certainly see where people make the argument that it hurts society's development. All of the instant gratification must make people's expectations different than I think they once were. Not to mention all of that blue light coming from the screen!
