Practicum Post 2

This post is about my first edit. I always noticed that my towns wikipedia page was missing a very notable resident.... Mariano Rivera so i decided to add him. I then clicked edit and saw that the language was very weird. This was a big step for me because i had to figure out how to add him to the article. I then looked up how to edit on wikipedia. There are a hundred of different symbols that are used to add or even make an article. Luckily for me, there were other notable residence on the page so I followed those formats. a * is used to create a new bullet point and a [[ ]] creates a link to another page. Therefore i wrote [[Mariano Rivera]] in order to link it to his wikipedia page. I then posted a quick summary of who he was- is a Panamanian right-handed baseball pitcher who has spent his entire 16-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the New York Yankees.

This was a big step in my use of wikipedia because I contributed to a page. That is the point of Wikipedia and it is what the organization encourages. I can see that it would take a long time to learn the language without looking things up. I plan on getting better and contributing to other pages. My next goal is to add a section to a page instead of just adding to a section. THe more i participate the more i will be a member of the Wiki community.
