Blog Post 4- Googling Myself

Well, after Googling myself, I found out that I'm far from the most famous Alex Girard in the world.

That probably belongs to Alexander Girard, a 20th century textile artist from New York. Since I typically go by Alex, though, I decided to only search for that.

I found that I share my namesake with a French web developer, a few high school kids with Myspace accounts, and a character in an amateur computer game. Nothing by the actual me turns up until about the 5th page, which is an article I wrote for the Badger Herald Arts Blog last year.

If I check image search, the first picture of "me" is on the second page. It's actually a picture of a howler monkey that I used to have as the profile pic on my Facebook. I appear myself on the 4th page with my Herald mugshot, and again on page 5 with another mugshot for a reporting class.

I honestly figured that with my Herald articles, I'd be on the first few pages, but I suppose outside of Madison nobody really reads The Badger Herald. I was also kind of surprised to see how common my name was. I know there are a lot of Alexs in the world; I know about seven or eight personally. I've never met a Girard that was more distant than like a cousin, though, so it was surprising to see how many people shared my namesake exactly. The video game character was also surprising. What are the odds that someone would pick my exact name arbitrarily?

Either way, I feel pretty private in terms of potential employers using Google to look me up. I'm just hoping they don't confuse me with one of the high school Myspaces.
