So, for this blogpost I decided to check out MySpace only because I dont know what e-Dosing is nor do I wanna click through a whole bunch of perverted and naked men on chatroulette (or so I've heard).
Personally, I have never created a myspace account, for which I am quite thankful. After playing around on the site and exploring all it has to offer, as well as perusing through people's profiles who allow non-friends to see what they are doing, I have come up with several interesting thoughts about myspace. First, I am amazed to see how much they are trying to offer to its users, from music to games, to videos, etc. Its like facebook, youtube, itunes, and hulu all thrown into one giant mess that will not be able to compete with the titans that are facebook and twitter. Despite this, I feel that myspace is really trying to compete in a monopolized market, and for that I really cannot bad-mouth them. Secondly, when searching for people, it is quite detailed, much like I would imagine an online dating site to be, where you have a list of preferences to choose from. I find that very odd, especially for a site that is primarily dominated by tweens and teens. Finally, and as it relates to class material, I believe that myspace, with all that is offers, exemplifies the "Web 2.0." By this I mean people are blogging and publishing themselves for the world to see as well as being a form of collective intelligence/user reviews. It is a site that is designed to be a template for people to create, adjust, and publish whatever they wish and show themselves in whatever light they want. People can critique anything on here and even their top music and movie preferences have their own links, which tells us something about user reviews and interests.
Overall, I feel that myspace cannot compete with facebook or twitter and will eventually die-off as so many other social networks have, or at the very least, become a low-rate social networking site for people who hate the power that facebook has.
