Blog #6- YouTube vs. Hulu

YouTube and Hulu are two really good sites to stream videos that you want to watch. Each site provides recommended videos for you as well as latest new clips on the homepage. They also both contain advertisements. Mostly on YouTube, the advertisements are at the bottom of the video where you have to click the X to make it go away. That can be very annoying, especially if it's a video you want to watch and not just hear. On the other hand, Hulu has 10-30 second advertisements before the video, which is annoying as well.

For this assignment I decided to watch to comedy sketches. On YouTube I watched Katt Williams' sketch called 'Killed by a Tiger' and on Hulu I watched the Celebrity Jeopardy clip from SNL. As I watched both videos, I did notice more differences in the web sites. In YouTube, there are suggestions that are not as related as they are on Hulu. One video, for example, was a story about someone being killed by a tiger, which is not related to comedy or Katt Williams at all. On hulu, every video was some other SNL clip.

In viewing two comedy videos, I began to think about other differences in genre of viewing. On YouTube, not full television shows are available. It is more about posting personal videos, or replaying short clips of previously recorded material. Hulu, with company's permission, is able to post full seasons and shows. It is even expanding to have a membership which would allow more access to viewers.

It was nice to be able to think more critically about these two popular web sites on the internet today. The comedy was refreshing too!
