It's been a while since I wrote a post. Sorry about that. I guess there isn't a whole lot that I personally find very relevant to say about posting on several different Brewers discussion boards. Though, I shouldn't say that--it is a fruitful venture and there are learning experiences, however it is also very difficult to put them into words without repeating myself frequently.
As I said way back when I did my presentation, the Brewers facebook page is a worthless venture as far as being a community or discussion board goes. There is no discussion between commenters. It is an OK place to get quick news clips if one doesn't have the time to go to other sites, but any comments on those status's or what have you amount to one of either "I like this" or "I do not like this". In addition, when on a group that with that big of a fanbase, a person's comment will be buried almost immediately. When facebook only shows the two or three most recent comments, it isn't likely for one of four hundred comments to be read very much.
I must admit that I have nearly abandoned the prosportsdaily forum, though it is not through the fault of that system. I realize I should post there more and this led me to ponder why I hadn't been. Then I remembered: It's because I got something wrong. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I was wrong about some statistic or game theory and was quickly corrected. By several people.
Of course, it sounds ridiculous to nearly stop altogether when a person gets something wrong, especially on an internet forum under a user name that would be difficult to track back to real me. Still, though, it is difficult to continue posting there as I had not had a large reputation on the fan base and I was not particularly happy about starting with a fairly poor one. I realize now one big reason that might have kept me from going back: I generally consider myself to be well above average with regards to baseball intelligence. As such, I am sure that I probably considered myself to be smarter than those in the forum and when proven wrong, I may have taken it more harshly than I should. Lesson: Don't be an egotistical prick, even when on an anonymous internet forum.
