"Privacy" in the digital age

Growing up, my parents were pretty tech-savvy. From a very young age they made sure I knew that anything I put online could potentially be found by anyone. I don't have any lingering MySpace pages out there with embarrassing conversations, and I've made my Facebook profile pretty air-tight (or at least as air-tight as Zuckerburg will let it be).

When I Googled myself, 11 of the first 20 results were actually about me. Of those 11, each of them was something that I've tried to make public and, if found by a potential employer, would probably help me out. Among the results were my LinkedIn profile, a blog from my time interning at Chicago's WXRT, my Vimeo account, a quick bio from my current workplace, a couple articles I wrote for the Badger Herald, the podcast from my radio show, and my homepage that I'm designing for this class!

Privacy can definitely be a troublesome creature in the digital age. But if you manage your publicity well, it can work out for the better.
