I've google myself before but, really, who hasn't? It's always fascinating looking up where we turn up on the internet but since I've done it before, I found no real surprises about what turned up.
The first result, as I'm sure it is for most people, is for facebook. With hundreds of millions of people as members, it would be hard not to be on it or, at the very least, have someone with a similar name who will turn up. Also on the front page were results for both this blog and for my J201 blog from freshman year, which was also on blogger. On the first page of results, there was only one result that wasn't actually me.
I'm more excited that things I am more proud of show up on the front page. More specifically, four results are about shows I am on for the student radio here, WSUM, on their website, wsum.org. One was for the facebook page for one show I am on, The Sixth Quarter (everyone's favorite sports talk show!). Yet another result was for a guest appearance I made for a St. Louis Cardinals blog, Viva El Birdos. As I contribute to a Brewers blog on the same network, they asked me to answer some questions prior to a series between the two teams.
On the second page there were more results that weren't actually about me, along with more from/about WSUM and The Sixth Quarter. There were also a guest spot I did on an online radio show (also about the Brewers) and an article I was mentioned in from my high school's newspaper.
Looking through other pages, there's a lot more of the same: More on WSUM, more via the blog, and a lot more results that weren't actually me. Also plenty of people finders. Any other combinations of my name didn't turn up much else, other than high school mentions.
Personally, I'm very pleased with the results that showed up for me. The two things that I am most proud of about myself--the radio and blog--are prominently shown if, for whatever reason, anybody googles my full name. I haven't exactly been worried about anything I've done being made public by a google search. I don't have any embarrassing laundry that needs airing out nor am I particularly worried about my safety being compromised through this method. I like google and am glad that the first things it shows about me are things I like about myself.
