Practicum Post #7- Derreck Krause

Hours Played: 13:00-15:00

So throughout the course of this project, the one constant that I have come across is who plays these games, how they communicate with one another, and that I am not a great online gamer. I know the statistic that we said in class about more woman over 18 play than men who are younger than 17 but I have not come across one woman who uses the team speak option to play, and each avatar seems to be male in creation and design. Secondly, the way that men communicate isnt about strategy or helping the team, it is about trash talking and threatening other players in the lobby. For example, "I am going to f******kill you. You're a douche bag, etc." This just seems like a place for people to come and congregate with their friends to form a team and socialize with each other, because heaven forbid some face-to-face interaction for a change. Finally, I am just terrible. My win-loss record was something like 14-38, and I barely made it to a level 15 with my experience and the hours I put in. Atleast, from now on, I wont have to be subjected to any griefers who play this game just to piss people off.

Overall, it was a fun project and I learned a lot more about console gaming than I ever thought I would. In addition, i learned how Call of Duty is continuously working to offer their players new and exciting gameplay modes and weapons, etc. It makes me wonder about the continual up-keep that goes on for such a game and how many employees work on this day in and day out. I also learned that this type of gaming isnt for me and I can stick to my story mode/campaign mode games because I am good at those, and therefore, my self-esteem and ego dont get bruised.
