Blog Post #7

Every computerized device I interact with in an evening is a difficult thing thing to come up with. I hope we aren't graded on exactness of the list, because I know I will be forgetting some things, or might just not know that something is computerized.

The three key things I would have to say first are my computer, phone and tv. All three are fairly obvious and, I'm sure, have been mentioned by everyone else on their posts. I will say, though, that I always find it interesting to remember that we landed a man on the moon with less complex equipment and with less computing power than that which is on my telephone. Kine of makes me feel like I should be able to do more with it than check facebook and twitter.

After those three is where it begins to get a bit harder. Looking around, I use my microwave somewhat frequently. With it's digital clock, timer, etc it of course uses computer technology. Along with television, anything that goes hand in hand with it like my DVD player and Nintendo 64 would also be included. My ipod should also be included in the discussion of computerized devices. If I still took a math class, my calculator would be included, though that has (thankfully, I might add) been retired for the time being.

Again, I know that I am forgetting things, but those eight are already more than I might have thought. But boy do computerized devices make life easier. And boy have we come a long way with it all. Like the whole moon landing/phone thing. We landed in the moon I believe in 1967. In 40 years, we had already compacted all the computing power they had for that and substantially more into a little 4"x2" cube whose primary use is for calling other people. This after the first computers could do little more than arithmetic and still took up huge quantities of space. Now, computerized equipment can be seen just about anywhere we look, from computers and phones and TVs to cars and airplanes. Pretty cool stuff.
